RFK Jr.’s $7M Super Bowl Ad Competing with Alicia Keys and Usher’s Performances

During the Super Bowl, a new Super PAC backing Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent presidential bid grabbed attention with a 30-second ad. American Values 2024 revealed a revamped version of a 1960 campaign spot from his uncle, former President John F. Kennedy, featuring the iconic jingle and motif. This high-profile ad, with a staggering $7 million price tag, aired nationwide.

The ad showcased images of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. addressing Congress and engaging in recreational pursuits like skiing, urging viewers to “vote independent.” Kennedy emphasized the importance of independent leadership in uniting the nation.

However, despite the ad’s buzz, Kennedy faced criticism from within his family. Cousin Bobby Shriver raised concerns about the use of family faces, particularly his mother’s, and disagreed with Kennedy’s healthcare views, including his stance on vaccines. Kennedy’s family members publicly disavowed his candidacy in October.

Furthermore, the ad’s release coincided with a complaint from the Democratic National Committee, alleging coordination between Kennedy’s campaign and the super PAC. The DNC pointed to substantial funding from Timothy Mellon, a major donor to a super PAC supporting Donald Trump, sparking speculation about Kennedy’s political affiliations.

While Kennedy’s candidacy is limited to Utah, his campaign presents him as a catalyst for genuine change, echoing the legacies of his uncle and father. Despite pushback from established political entities, Kennedy’s supporters maintain faith in his ability to disrupt the status quo. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s absence from the traditional Super Bowl presidential interview underscores the shifting dynamics of American politics.
