Most of the current political shifts within the West—the election of Donald Trump, the rise of populism in Europe and Brexit—could be partially attributed to the concern of mass migration. But growing migration is among the quickest methods to make the world richer.

Legal skilled workers, ofc
Otherwise no
we are on the brink of Malthusian catastrope
1. Why do the vast majority of migrants move?
2. According to Michael Clemens, how much would the world GDP increase if all barriers to labor mobility were lifted?
3. Why are workers from poorer countries more productive when they come to developed countries like the US or the UK?
4. How many people would migrate if they could?
5. Who are the biggest beneficiaries of migration?
6. Who is Beth, and what was her story? Why did she decide to migrate to the UAE and then to London?
7. What are remittances? What percentage of the GDP are remittances worth in 30 countries worldwide? What about in Tajikistan and Kyrgystan?
8. What are some of the benefits to the countries migrants come from besides money transfers (remittances)?
9. What are the common perceptions about migrants in their destination countries?
10. What does Professor Peri mean when he says that immigrants' jobs complement local workers?
11. What does he say about high-skilled migrants?
12. What are some Fortune 500 companies that immigrants or their children founded?
13. What did the study carried out in 2018 reveal about the public's perception of migration?
14. Why is it unlikely that there will be a sudden opening of borders?
Imagine holding a grudge against your benevolent host country’s culture and values
investment and cultural empowerment in a nation’s local people makes the world richer.
Migrants receive most of their education within their own country but decide take such skills elsewhere: developing some regions but draining others. Mercantilism is a long outdated economic theory, even when applied to human capital. Undermining something as crucial as territorial sovereignty and national uniqueness is tantamount to signing a nation’s death warrant
This is video is absolutely jewish
Lil bratan
At my expense
Rich boys…???
Sounds like someone is missing a buck here…????
Migration makes landlords richer
They interviewed two "experts." Sure, all those remittances are great for the developing countries, but increasing demand by unrestricted immigrating drives domestic prices up. The Economist should know this.
Too little info in these videos.

Absolutely disgusting
Migration has gone practically nothing for Australia as far as innovation and progress is concerned. Australia is ranked down at 87 for Economic complexity, meaning very little is produced or invented there that is sold in the international market. It is ranked alongside third world nations. If Australia is inviting the best and brightest then what are they doing exactly?
Migration no, immigration yes. Pritect your borders, people illegally crossing whether nice or mean are freeloading
The myopic self-destructive focus on only estimated potential GDP growth means you just want to walk us all off the cliff. You want to reduce every country to an economic unit to the point where it’s no longer even a country anymore. You people are psychotic.
commies
More leftwing BS from the economist. Are these dummies right about anything?
NO TO MIGRATION! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! STOP MIGRATION!!!!!!
It doesn’t. It is always a net negative.
It's obvious 90% of the comments were deleted. Controlled and selective migration of exceptional individuals does make the world richer. Taking into mass swaths of unskilled asylum seekers puts strain on western countries plain and simple.
Everyone would be much wealthier if the "trickle down" aristocracy didn't control the colossal propaganda machine making them able to pretend they're "a man of the people" and emotionally manipulate, using those who think of themselves as "born upper caste" fear of immigrants, against themselves and the whole country's prosperity.
The problem with migrants moving from the third world to the first, is mainly the lack of opportunities available to them. They think they’re going to work and send money home to their families, however the truth is they struggle to find work. Most are unskilled and uneducated, and don’t bring much value to the workplace. These types of jobs are decreasing as we automate our workplaces and these unskilled jobs are already filled. They pay minimum wage and the migrant (if lucky to find work), realises that what they earn isn’t sufficient for them to live on, and they don’t have surplus money to send home. They think the first world is paved with gold, and they will get free housing, healthcare and education. The reality isn’t like that and the only people that really benefit are the traffickers, who convince people to leave their home country.
Well this didn’t turn out to be true since the government just supports the migrants without them contributing to society.
Pure propaganda
I’m surprised the Economist made this tone deaf video. One wonders if they’ve seen the news coming out of the USA. Migrants add nothing to the natives of developed countries. In fact, they rub salt into the wounds of the native working class. They do make the already well off even more well off, though. As a white, single and childless 54 year old bachelor, I can tell you with certainty that migrants have quite literally stolen my wealth
You are forgetting the people that just want to immigrate to be supported by the government. The lazy ones that do not want to work, like that Venezuelan woman that was mad because she got a work permit.
Worldwide Economic Development please
THIS IS TRUE IF THE MIGRANTS INTEGRATE , but they do not , and do not accept the culture , customs and laws of the country they go to , THEY ARE NOT WELCOME
I sincerely believe that migration enriches a country both economically and culturally.
It’s all about money !!
Where I live in Ireland there has quite a bit of migration in recent years are we have a infastructure problem here (particularly hosuing shortage) and it has made matters worse
Who cares about the development of ghana right? Everyone should just move to the West? Why don't they all just move to Israel for the cultural and political enrichment? Maybe cuz the Jews are just a bunch racists that hate blacks people right?
I wonder how exactly would this impact in world wealth be distributed equitably across the world. It sounds like a ploy for rich countries to get richer and drain the poorer countries' workforce and economy. It would be interesting to see this study done from the perspective of HDI (Human Development Index) rather than global wealth.
The Economist is sophomoric globalist propaganda that unfortunately works on the weak minded.
Michael Clemens claims that there is no country that has been developed by trapping people there? How about China? China doesn't let the best educated and skilled people leave the country but imports the ideas, technologies and skilled people from abroad.
disagree
**** THE ECONOMIST, what you dont address is the 'direct competition" for basic needs which includes housing, family doctors and other specialities and the quality of care that it once in history provided, but not anymore! Due to immigration, the country like Canada which had about 10,000,000 in the 50's and 60' when Medicare started now has 40,000,000 plus people and the STANDARD of care is not even close to what is once was …due to IMMIGRATION! More people are homeless than ever before. Technology and consumerism delapitated the VALUES and MORALS of the world and many people in their homeland want to PRESERVE them not destroy them as countries in Scandenavia and places like DENMARK are against immigation! "Denmark Is Leading Europe's Anti-Immigration Policies" is a title of a video on Youtube you can watch! The richer are getting richer and the poorer are becoming more poor!!
i want to travel to canada
Great 👍
But the racist govt of some countries donwant other to earn bread in there homeland 😢😶😶
there is a big difference in migration legally versus illegal migration.
Americans forget they have the opportunity to protest against migration in the so called "land of opportunity" because their ancestors once migrated to the Americas centuries ago. Lol. Hypocrites !
It's suddenly that a lot of local people believe that migrants are a problem when they hadn't seen the benefits of it, not just for their countries but also for the migrants. I reckon that the cultural phenomena of not being empathetic with the other ones had led governments (as in the USA) to create and force policies against migration when this policy should regulate it and assure a safe migration. The United States had been benefiting from migrants that are there, increasing their economy and leading to better job opportunities for the local people. Perhaps if Americans were all ears and eyes to see how migrants apport innovation for American companies, they would be less distrustful about migration. People don't move abroad because they enjoy it, they do because need to work and in that way help their families back home.
enough parasites, fortress E.U.!
Elites wanting cheap labour. Splitting up families and taking skills and youth from poorer nations. Shameful.
Brits don't want the rest of the UK to look and feel like London. The elites don't care and politicians (from both parties) have ignored a majority of voters wishes for the last 50 years. Fact.
