  • Excellent information! I was released after 25-years with a major corporation in which I was an executive. This was 2001 and it came as a shock. Once I got my feet firmly planted under me I began my search. As you recommend, I targeted specific job postings from specific companies instead of blasting off hundreds of resumes. From most job postings you can quickly determine exactly what the company is seeking based on the way they write the job requirements. I then roll played by putting on a Consultants Hat and developed a cold-call letter to the appropriate Executive (in my case the CFO) introducing myself and saying something like "Most companies today struggle with managing their …..". Insert some of their own words from their job posting and provide a couple of generic examples. Then I said something like "If you find your business in this situation then I can help." "I currently work independently and possess the skills and experience required to quickly address ……. ." "I can be contacted at …… to discuss your specific situation and mutual opportunities." This bypasses the competitive job posting process and targets the specific issue(s) they want addressed. This technique worked very well as I was quickly employed. 👋😎 I hope this helps someone and oh btw: I ended up as COO of this company overseeing 5 international companies … hahaha.

  • As someone who moved to Canada from South Korea, I can confidently say that job market in Canada is not particularly bad at all compared to that of South Korea. If you speak good enough English and respect Canadian culture, Canadians will welcome you. More and more people who used to be nice to immigrants are turning their backs bc they started to realize some immigrants aren’t really respectful. Such is a sad reality.

  • Hello, thank you for your efforts to make these helpful contents.
I want to ask, which province will you advise a medical doctor coming to Canada for the first time land in – considering job availability prior to getting a licence to practice?

  • There are countless channels and videos out there recycling the same advice about adapting to life in Canada. It's hard not to feel like some of these creators are just capitalizing on the trend to make money on YouTube. If they've truly adapted to life in Canada, why are they still churning out content on how to do it?

It’s almost like trying to learn how to fly from chickens—where are the eagles at? Why not just take their entire channel concept and do it too is that what they are teaching us?

  • If you want work in Canada, there are only two places to get work: low-wage school-bus drivers, and low-wage health-care jobs (Personal Support Workers, and Licensed Practical Nurses). As a PSW, you will have to work at 2 to 4 different facilities each and every day just to get 8 hours of work per day, and you make around minimum wage of $16.55 for your work. As a LPN, you make a bit more, at around $25 per hour. The typical 2 bedroom apartment cost around $3,000 per month. In Canada you get taxed about 20% of your pay, so you only get to keep $20 of that $25 per hour, so if you are making $25/hr you only get $20/hr after taxes, and if you work the typical 40-hour work week, you only get $800 per week, which is $3,200 per month. So after you pay for your rent, you will have $200 exta to buy food. Good luck surviving on that.

  • Networking is useless unless one is in a network. No one ever was able to explain how to start Networking if we have network and no one to introduce. No one ever explain how to network outside major cities.

  • Many people have made those recommendations in job-hunting coach programs or workshops. The recommendations sound good and convincing, but they do not work. People who do an excellent job on LinkedIn might be freelancers. I meant they do not find jobs on LinkedIn. Networking might already be all set in a small circle of connection in family and childhood friends.

  • This is not the worst job market ever. Ask anyone in B.C. who was looking for work in the 1980s, or Newfoundland before the offshore oil boom. It has been much worse than in the past. The last few decades have been, and still are, a good time to be looking for work.

That doesn’t mean the current market isn’t worse than a few year ago, but it’s far from the worst. Employers often have unrealistic expectations and are hesitant to hire those without experience.

If you’re looking for work, the advice given on this channel is excellent. If you’re new to Canada, establishing a network and paying it forward are the most important things you can do.
