Biometric visit 1 pm slot :

Place is just 500 meters from the US consulate in BKC. Reach 15 mins before schedule time.

Bring your own transport & it also serves the purpose of keeping any bags or mobiles etc.

General Check of DS 160, Confirmation letter & Passports at entry to building, entry to office & final security check. Please avoid carrying anything else besides a transparent folder either individually or in group.

Post security check, ur DS 160 is verified & any mistakes here will lead to being pulled out of the queue. If there are no issues, Your passport is pasted with 2 bar code stamps which are important for future visa interview appointments.

Final step is individual check of passport at a separate glass wall counter & you instructed steps for finger print scan & photo.

Your DS 169 is returned with a date stamp if all is well.

Incase of any errors in DS 160, you will be asked to correct the same by generating new Ds 160. Herein lies the issue, you will need internet access on phone but best if a laptop or computer so you will need to head back to your place of stay/phone/laptop/internet access. So if you manage to stay/book a hotel near the biometric center it greatly helps with your own parked vehicle at Biometric center.

Now the scam : just next to the Biometric center is a private small cyber cafe + xerox/printout setup. They will charge 500 for mobile storage. But will mainly quietly help you generate a new DS 160 form while you provide information. There are 8+ internet terminals & you are assigned a smart girl to fill this up for you while gently informing you that each form will cost 3000 for correction & around 10 mins for the same. In my brief stay there I saw 25+ people make corrections & that small office pocketed a cool 75000 in an hour. This seemed like a hand in glove behind the scene operation with officials working at biometric! Conveniently there is an ATM downstairs & they only seek cash obviously.

So validate ur DS 160 a week/month before or go through a qualified agent if not savvy & reach early at Biometric on day of appointment so you have time for any corrections if needed. For me it took 45 mins + avoidable extra 40 mins for DS form correction.

    Visa Interview Day :

Pray you have an early Morning slot, it somehow helps and try to reach 30 mins before you allot time.

You won't be let in but a person in speaker will call out appointment times & all folks are made to stand in a 500 meter long queue outside the consulate.

All you need here is DS 160, Confirmation Letter & Passport. Anything else you carry needs to be in a transparent folder.

You will be checked for a passport with a stamped barcode & let inside for security check. No mobiles, smart watches or any electronic gadgets & even wallets are searched. Best is just carry the folder & cash in pocket if returning by cab post interview. Here again you can deposit your mobile & small bag outside against a Paid token. So you can bring a mobile!

Post security check at the entrance, you will be guided to a queue to await your turn to enter a second building for validation of passport & DS 160. This takes 15-20 mins while you can watch people go through motions of rejection or approval for Visa on the opposite side inside the premise. Post validation, if all is ok you will go to a second queue for BioMetric check by a US officer behind a window. Post this you will be in a final queue based on language preferred for the interview with an Indian translator & US Visa officer behind a window . I feel selecting the English language & Direct interview without a translator is an advantage as it will be short personal face to face with a Visa officer & if you are confident & honest it should not take more than 5 mins.

Once at window for interview you are asked : Mainly purpose of visit [ meet family, name the places of visit ], what does relatives do whom you are going to meet in US, what do you do, age of kids if with you & what they do, what does spouse do, have you being to usa before etc. Ensure you greet, smile & give answers in a long detailed clear sentence in a medium non aggressive and fast tone.  Family members asked should answer themselves & not you on behalf of anybody. These are main questions & based on answers to these, additional questions may come up. Therefore it is very important for all members to memorize details filled up in DS 160 & stick to it.

Honestly, Clarity, Calmness, Composure, Confidence on Reply is the Key. Don't be a one liner loud fast talking robot. P.s : wear smart formals but don’t over dress.

I applied in June 2023 myself by referring to youtube tutorials for an interview date of 29 November 2024 for a family of 4 for the first time Visa appointment to visit my sister & her family in the USA. Our first international planned trip. Me & wife working since 20 years, son in college & daughter in high school.

Daughter had a new passport between the application & appointment date so DS 160 had to be refilled with new passport details. Me, wife & son had errors in the last name section in DS 160 so we generated a new DS 160 & cost me 12000 in cash & 30 mins of time at the biometric center.

We got an early morning 8.20 visa interview time slot and were there by 7.30 but got called in at 8.20 only & took 2 hours for the whole process to end. Actual visa interview took 3 mins & we got the VISA on the first attempt. The young couple in front of us was denied & overall saw 4 rejections & 8 approvals during our time in queue. I had applied for express passport delivery service & received the same on 3rd day at my home town in Gujarat.

  • Got my H1B petition approved this year and will go for the stamping this December. The only thing worry me is that I took three masters, two of which involved day 1 CPT. Other than that, I have maintained a valid status during my 9 years of stay in the US. I have a decent Software Engineering Job with a decent salary. Do you have any tips for me? I'd be happy to pay for a consultation!
