The guitar, dubbed the “most iconic lost musical instrument of all time” by The Lost Bass Project,

It was used on Beatles songs like the 1963 hits She Loves You

and All My Loving

The instrument was stolen from a van in the Notting Hill area of London in October 1972

The Lost Bass Project made a public appeal last year and was shared around the world.

It was found in a terraced house in Hastings on the south coast of England. Paul McCartney’s company was contacted and then the bass was returned to them

The guitar has been authenticated by Hofner and Paul is incredibly grateful to all those involved,” a spokesperson on McCartney website said

The bass guitar was “somewhat damaged” with a crack in the neck, a bridge that would need replacing and pickups that didn’t work anymore.

After 51 year the instrument was returned to Paul McCartney last year, but it was only announced on Thursday.
