It’s always best to visit the embassy site through VFS, download their checklist and go through that rather than relying on this generic advice for Schengen m. There are minor changes for each countries and what one accepts might not be true for the other one.
Oneway fly is awful. They don't mention any details and then say your ticket is only valid for two days lol. please mention these details when you're suggesting something.

Imnigration in the country your applying for can call your hotel directly to confirm your paid rrservation and see you used a dummy reservation. and you will be red flagged for future visa entries.

What do you mean by old passport? I mean what if I have only one passport?
